The model recognises 5 key practices in effective teaching and learning and provides common language for discussing, planning, and reflecting on learning and teaching in Catholic Schools in Brisbane. The Autism Friendly Practice curriculum access plan supports teachers to focus on the learner with Autism and agree appropriate adjustments for that student that enables them to meet the relevant achievement standard. The discernment process is designed to assist classroom teachers and other staff to identify appropriate adjustments that support a student to access the Australian Curriculum.
Purpose: Support the classroom teachers to:
Understand the student’s particular strengths and needs
Make curriculum access adjustments that have been agreed to in consultation with the student and his/her parents
Ensure that students with autism are supported to achieve academic and social success through the Australian Curriculum.
